Setting
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place in the real town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. It mostly takes place in the Mississippi River though, since this is where Huck and Jim were generally at. The story probably takes place in the early-mid 1800's since the Civil War had not occurred yet. The setting contributes to the plot of the story because during that time, slavery was obviously taking place. Also in the south was where it was occurring at. The way the author wrote how they talked and how they acted also contributed a lot to the setting and plot because it made you feel like if you were actually there, hearing them talk. For example Mark Twain would make Jim, who was a slave and not educated, say things like, "Does you know 'bout dat chile dat he 'uz gwyne to chop in two?" The Spelling and grammar errors really show you the struggle that the slave Jim had to go through since he had no education. It takes you back to the setting of the story and helps you realize that this is how things were.
